Together with some friends from left Clara, daughter Kristin, Kwong - I had a bit over an overdose of fresh air and walking on Friday the 29th of January and Saturdsay the 30th of January. Here my friends are eating breakfast in their sleepingbags.
Kwong and I somehow "had to go to" Wong Chuk Kok Tsui = Yellow bamboo corner tip of land" The place is on the tip on an peninsula almost at the north east corner of Hong Kong. You can go there by boat or walk from the nearest parking space/bus stop in a village about 15km away. There is absolutly nothing there, but a beautiful view of the sea on three sides, mountains behind mountians that you know you will have to cross on your way back and bush. No fresh water, very few people. We meet less than 20 on our way back on Saturday.
Now 15km one way or 30km in total, is not much for us brave walkers - however this was a tough one as we deceided to sleep there and brought sleeping bags, sleeping mats and about 3l of water each + food and clothes of course - even a backpack of 8-10 kg is felt after some time. The pictures is from the morning - after sleeping rough from 4am to about 8am.
In addition the track was very bad, lots of "jungle and bush" ups and downs, loose stones and gravel most of the time and on our way "out" it was night. We walked from 10pm to 3:30am - 5 hours. Next morning we had sunshine and I returned home exhausted with a dep red colour on my face.
Going back I remarked at particular steep cliff- "Did we really climb down here in darkness last night? Not bad at all"
Was it worth it - I would say yes! Just had to go there. The friendsship was good and it did not rain during the night.
However I guess that I will not go back for awhile - except with a boat.
Picture below. Starting on our way back home. 5 hours to go to reach the car.
