Yongshun Environment Project

The contract between NMS and Amity for Yongshun Environment Project was signed in May, 2009.
Amity officially approved the three activities for this year in the end of May.
Up to the reporting time, a lot of preparation has been made for project implementation.
Firstly, Yadong reservoir: Implementation scheme has been worked out, and villager meetings
have been held twice to discuss how to organize the beneficiaries' physical contribution, how to deal with possible disputes in the process of construction, and so on.
Technicians and construction team have been chosen to rebuild the irrigation canal system. The County Government has officially promised to provide RMB80,000 for this project as matching fund. Construction process will begin in early August, and the project is expected to be completed in the end of November 2009.
Secondly, Sicheng water project: The project will get 13 villager groups including 315 households involved. The village houses are sparsely spotted and are far away from each other. The villagers' support is essential to the success of this project. Therefore, special attention has been paid to communication with the villagers and much work has been done, in order to ensure the villagers' role as participator, implementor, and supervisor in this project.
Two meetings have been held at the village level, and six meetings have been held at the villagers group level. Besides, 34 rural households have been visited to gather opinions and suggestions from the target villagers. The County government has officially promised to provide
RMB100 000 as matching fund to this project.

Thirdly, training about safety of agricultural products: After a series of surveys, it has been decided that 200 technicians will be trained in this project; 160 technicians are from the 30 townships of Yongshun County, and 40 technicians come from the county level. Besides, 200 farmers will also be trained.
They are local experts in planting, agricultural products processing etc. They are active members in local agriculture, and are able to influence other farmers with their own practice. Training materials have been purchased, including 2,500 textbooks and 2,000 CDs. Training will be arranged in accordance with local agricultural seasons. It is expected that all the training will be carried out before the end of December 2009.
